Your basic needs include SUPPORT.
Yes – having a strong and healthy support system is absolutely a part of your basic needs.
Often, we don’t realize how crucial our supportive people are in our life – just as necessary as food, water, and regular sleep! Having a strong support system is often the biggest factor when I’m working with clients on improving their mental health.
Yeah, we can reduce symptoms and learn new skills, but there’s no skill out there that compares to the feeling of authentic connection and being truly seen and accepted for who we are at our core.
Therapists are great for providing that support in individual therapy, but what happens when you go home? Many of us do not have the adequate support needed to succeed past those initial steps of the therapeutic process, leaving us feeling alone and unseen.
Group therapy is an amazing tool that can be used on its own…
… or to complement ongoing individual therapy services. And it’s totally not as scary or intimidating as it may seem.
In fact, most group members self-identify as introverts or as struggling with social anxiety in some way or another. Of course, it can seem super vulnerable to imagine sharing your deepest feelings with a whole group of strangers – but this is oh so different. Group therapy is like having therapy with a whole room of YOUs to bounce your thoughts and feeling off, and to be genuinely heard by those who actually understand how you feel.
Group therapy maximizes your experience of validation, support, and genuine relatability. You’ll have an opportunity to connect with others or even take a step back to just listen and observe different experiences and perspectives that be especially inspiring or motivating to your own internal work.
Just bring yourself…
Unsure of what a group session will look like? No sweat – just bring yourself and let me do the work!
Whether it’s your first group or you’re pro, I will walk you through the sessions step by step, establishing appropriate guidance on expectations and structure of group meetings, including topics of focus, opportunities for journaling, reflection, and artistic expression, and of course- refreshments (snacks, water, coffee/tea).
In my group spaces, you don’t have to worry about uncomfortable “ice-breakers” or being forced to verbally participate, rather we support and engage with each other as a whole, and even a simple supportive and respectful presence from one human to another can be just as meaningful and deeper verbal reflections.
My groups are held in a cozy and comfortable space in my therapy office, or we have the option of utilizing an open workshop space which accommodates educational and creative group processes. Groups are offered on evenings and weekends so they can accommodate even the most hectic of schedules.
My group offerings are limited as I firmly believe in putting an incredible amount of time and effort into creating a comfortable and safe group experience for all members.
